Seo specialist as employee

To my knowledge, seo specialist is making his mission in increasing my company's website rank. Also he is putting his efforts for bringing it in the first 10 result search engines like google or altavista. I want to know whether my thinking is right that after his mission is done, i don't need him in my company. So, what i want to know is that “is seo specialist needed in my company all the time as an employee”?

Let me inform you that, this is not a right thing. After getting the ranking in top 10, the difficult part starts now. If you are working in a competitive industry in the market, I feel that your competitor will try to come up on higher position and that will eventually make you to go down. Therefore, what I feel is you need a full time SEO person to protect your ranking and I suggest don't let your website to go down. Also, let me make you clear that even though the effort would be little bit less once you are ranking in top 10, the work load increases from there. And if the competition is low for the keywords you are targeting in the market for your product then you will normally stay on top for more months.
