Old history of fireworks

I just got inquisitive about fireworks, do you know the history of fireworks, i feel i need to know how this came about, can you please tell me?

I started hearing about fireworks long time ago, from the time I started understanding, in those days you would only see fireworks on the New Year’s Day, at exactly midnight and it was always in the middle of the city.
As days went things started changing, people started using fireworks on other festive days like Christmas, thanksgiving and others. Of late I see fireworks being applied wherever there is cause to rejoice.
On these Olympic Games and other major sports competition, fireworks are used. Also whenever a renowned artist is coming to town you will see fireworks as a form of welcome. And of course as the world changes don’t be surprised if you start seeing them being used on simple birthday parties held in homes.
