I am totally new to this online shopping websites thing and i haven’t got any idea on how it is done. Where can i find the required information? Will the process involved be the same for all the websites?

First of all let it tell you that it isn't a very difficult job and you don’t have to do a lot of research to find how this is to be done. All the information you need will be available in the very website where you choose to buy the product; you just have to look for it in the right place. Once you are done picking the product and the seller you want to buy from, you can look for the buttons named how to buy or customer support or order information buttons and there you can get all the information you need to place a proper order and buy the stuff you need. You are right in saying that the process involved might vary from one site to another, so you may first choose the site and the product you want to buy and then do the reading part.
