What is aol mail?

I know that aol mail is referred to as aim ( aol instant messaging), does this mean it is basically about texting and chatting or can it operate like these other webmail services?

Though AOL mail is referred to as instant messaging, it has more than just chatting services, just like you hear of yahoo or Gmail services so is the AOL mail. With it you can send and receive emails, you can receive and send mail using IMAP and POP3 capable email programs, and actually some of the services AOL mail offers are not offered at other service providers. It offers you protection for your inbox, imbedded links within emails are disabled automatically but you can activate them if you so wish.
