When i am chatting in messenger rooms like yahoo, i keep seeing jargon that says “lol”. Is it an abuse? What does it mean?

AnswerHmmmm. If you noticed “lol” in chat rooms, you might have noticed a trend on when it is occurring like somebody cracked a totally hilarious joke. Essentially, LOL equates to “Laughing Out Loud”. It is chat room internet slang.
The purpose of LOL is using cryptic or short language like in SMS since chat is all about users who want to convey lots of information with least number of characters or words. Similarly, chat room language is also used to convey emotions. LOL is one example. Other examples include ROFL “Rolling On Floor Laughing”, ROTFL “Rolling On The Floor Laughing”, BWL “Bursting With Laughter”.
