I would like to buy an electric fence for my dog. Can you explain me how it works and where i can find one in Canada or on the internet?

First, here are two basic types of electric fence for dogs: visible and invisible. Of course, the invisible one is more esthetic than the visible one.
Dogs are intelligent enough to associate quickly the noise and little shock when they approach the dog fence whether it is visible or not. Some manufacturers even make fences with a series of little flags to give the animal indications of its location. The effectiveness varies for both pet fences either it is visible or not. The visible one has one more advantage because it also relies on the little flags to drive the dog back as well as on the shock. The visible fence provides a delimited perimeter with an electric high tensile wire and little sound posts. That may really discourages the dog from escaping.
You will find electrical dogs fences in pet shops but also at some veterinaries offices or in dog training schools.
